L’artiste suisse David Renggli (né en 1974) utilise des éléments du quotidien, décontextualisés, dénaturés et mis en scène en se jouant des repères spatiaux, pour créer des compositions sculpturales et des mondes surréalistes et post-industriels, évoquant des contes de fées aussi bien que des histoires de fantômes.

«One might very easily say that David Renggli scans reality. For just as the author Peter Handke speaks of a flipside landscape, meaning those aspects of a city which lie behind the image on the front side of a postcard, in David Renggli’s case, one could speak of a flipside reality. With Renggli’s work, interaction with reality means the revelation of a wondrous double existence (of a strand of wool, for instance) rather than an analysis of the suitability of everyday objects for inclusion in art. In other words, David Renggli scans the potentiel of objects and interrelationships in order to tell strange stories.

Renggli is permanently in a state of observing his living space, his personal surroundings. This observation does not follow any direct theoretical agenda, but rather attempts to remain sensitive to the effectiveness of everyday things, and also of art history, and to focus on this effectiveness in a way which almost always defines a state of surreal reality; Renggli charges a previously lifeless reality with an anima.»
